Who Are You Without Your Pain?

How Meditation Helped Me Heal and Become Nobody with Infinite Possibilities

Have you ever wondered who you really are if you take away all the pain and old stories that hold you back? I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. For me, meditation opened a quiet space where I could let go of fear, prejudice, and pain. It’s not about becoming someone new but becoming nobody, free from what used to limit me.

When we feel something, any emotion at all, our pituitary gland starts releasing hormones into the bloodstream. Emotions travel like neurotransmitters through the brain fluid and those hormones begin affecting the rest of our body. They're like little messengers, carried by the blood, each with its own tiny shape, reaching different parts of our body, and interacting with other endocrine glands. So when you feel something, you're actually giving your body a command. That emotion becomes a signal.

There are two main emotional responses our nervous system uses:

  • Parasympathetic nervous system is the one that helps us rest, repair, and regenerate. It’s activated when we feel joy, peace, gratitude, freedom, excitement, optimism, compassion, kindness, and love.
  • Sympathetic nervous system, on the other hand, is for survival, it responds to anger, fear, jealousy, sadness, pain, injustice, shame, guilt, worthlessness, or feeling mistreated.

Let’s say when you think about your ex and feel sadness or regret. Even if nothing is happening right now, just the thought itself can activate your sympathetic nervous system. Just like that, your body doesn’t know the difference between a memory and a real life event. Your thoughts alone can harm your physical body. But here’s the hope, gratitude is one of the most healing emotions we can feel. When you're truly in a grateful state, you're helping your body repair itself.

Every time our endocrine system releases hormones into our cells, the cells read those chemicals and respond. That moment right there is when your body decides whether to turn on the genes that make you stronger or the ones that make you weaker. So yes, your emotions are influencing your physical health on a cellular level.

Think about that for a moment, every time you feel hate, envy, or resentment, you're not just hurting emotionally, you’re weakening your body at the genetic level. You’re turning on programs of pain and breakdown inside you. Emerging research suggests that our emotional states can influence gene expression and may even affect future generations, especially during pregnancy. So when we choose healing, we don’t just heal ourselves, we help the next generation too.

Anyone who’s ever truly transformed their life had to go through the gateway of their thoughts and emotions. That’s why I believe meditation is the most direct, powerful way to change. You don’t have to wait until your body breaks down or your heart shatters to begin. You can start now, just by choosing stillness. Waiting until suffering forces you to change is dangerous. Sometimes people reach a point where the pain feels endless, and they just want to give up. But what if you could change before reaching that point? The moment you begin to change, your brain structure changes too.

When is the best time to meditate?

It’s when your stress is lowest, when you’re relaxed and quiet. Early morning is the best time to meditate, before the world wakes up as your subconscious program is weakest then. On the flip side, when you’re stressed, your subconscious program is strongest, is when you might even know you're reacting badly, making wrong choices and still not be able to stop yourself.

You can sit or lie down, put on your headphones, and let go of your physical body. Meditation music often has no lyrics and they tend to repeat gently so you don’t get distracted. When you calm all your senses down, something magical happens. You will feel like you're arriving at a place that you’ve always wanted to be there, you might not even know where you were going but you didn’t care. You just stop thinking, and it all just feels empty in a peaceful way. That’s a transcendent state.

Of course, your usual thoughts will come back. It might be about a conversation at work or something silly a friend said. Or like me, I would wonder “ Are unicorns real?" That’s okay. All you have to do is to bring yourself back and relax your body again. It’s probably how you feel at the beginning of your meditation journey. But over time, it gets better. And you will notice it gets better each day. Then one day you might sit for an hour and feel like only 15 minutes passed. That’s because you’re no longer bound by time and space.

Becoming Nobody—Just Pure Awareness

In that space, your brain reorganizes itself. Your senses are turned off, so your subconscious quiets down. You become nobody. No name, no face, no past. Just pure awareness.

When you believe the world is against you, your senses become attuned to evidence of betrayal, failure, and rejection. Your nervous system reacts to shadows. Your posture closes your mind, sharpens itself not into the tool for creation but cut into a shield against disappointment. But when you believe the universe is a partner, a co-creator not an adversary, something changes. You no longer brace for pain, you prepare for purpose, you become receptive to nuance, and open to infinite opportunities. And from that emptiness, the new you is born. You’re no longer attached to the old stories. You start attracting a new reality.

Your thoughts become energy. That’s when new doors open. New people appear. Beautiful relationships happen. You begin to see a different world, not because the world changed, but because you did. Meditation is a daily practice. It takes patience and willingness but here’s something to think about: If you spend just 30 minutes a day which is only 2% of your day, for the chance to improve the other 98%, wouldn’t that be worth it?

Science has already shown that meditation can lengthen your telomeres, which are linked to longevity. It helps you live longer, feel happier, and attract healthier energy. I truly believe those 30 minutes are the wisest, most productive part of my day, a way I show myself real self-love.

So I ask you again…

Who are you if you remove all the trauma and prejudice from your life?
Are you nobody? Or are you someone with infinite possibilities?

I believe I’m rebuilding myself from a blank canvas. And that’s something beautiful.
